CAIRO, Nov 9 (PRIME) -- Egypt will not insist on resumption of touristic flow from Russia, local newspaper Youm7 reported late on Wednesday quoting President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as saying.
“I respect the Russian position on the return of tourists, but we have not insisted on that and we will not insist. We welcome everyone who wants to see our security measures for themselves,” he said.
There is “no connection between Egypt’s singing of contracts with Russia to construct a nuclear power station in El Dabaa and restoration of the air travel,” he added.
Moscow suspended flights to Egypt in November 2015 after a major crash of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula. Russia believes that the plane was likely brought down by a bomb. In early October, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that Moscow was still waiting for Egypt to respond on the draft accord on security in Egyptian airports, the signing of which is necessary to restart the air travel.
